The Gray Enigma is one of four functional Allegiances, the other three being the Galactic Fleet, the Starlight Rebellion, and the Church of Faust. If you chose the Gray Enigma during Character Creation, your progress through its storyline is tracked by your Enigma Agent level.

To begin the storyline, talk to Commander Zeig in the Market on your Ship.

TOTAL SPOILER!
Talking to Commander Zeig while you are at least level 10 will elevate you to Enigma Agent level 2 and prompt this dialogue:
  • "It's good to see a strong operative join our ranks."
  • "Now for your first real assignment, agent!"
  • "Gather up 50 Monster Claws for me. These planets need some cleaning up with all of these monsters roaming around."

Do as he says, and he will say this as he elevates you to Enigma Agent level 3:

  • "Took you long enough."

Talking to him if you are below level 25 will make him say the following:

  • "Hmm I'm afraid you're not quite ready for the next task."
  • "Come back when you're a higher combat level. The next task will be quite... Tough."

Until you reach level 25, He will keep repeating this.

Talk to him again once you have reached level 25 (?), and he will say this as he elevates you to Enigma Agent level 4:

  • "You're looking to be the top of the class, agent."
  • "It's a shame almost all new agents die during this next mission..."
  • "Go to the Hollow Caverns and slay a Gruu. They are always interfering with our mining operations."

Do as he says, and you will be elevated to Enigma Agent level 5 once the Gruu is dead.

Return to Commander Zeig, and he will say this as he elevates you to Enigma Agent level 6:

  • "Nice job with slaying a Gruu. Those ones are pretty tough."
  • "You've proven yourself to be quite the killing machine..."
  • "...So now you're going to assassinate someone for us."
  • "I just got a tip from this Starlight chick. She wants one of our operatives to go to the Desolate Canyon and assassinate some Red-Armored guy."
  • "I'll be sending YOU on this one. Prove your loyalty to the Enigma."

Go to the Desolate Canyon and find Dragonslayer Ringabolt. Interact with him, and he will utter these last words before you murder him, elevating yourself to Enigma Agent level 7:

  • "No... Please don't!"
  • "I only... Wanted to help..."
  • "But it seems as though I've beamed to the wrong planet..."

Interacting with his corpse afterwards gives this tidbit:

  • "[Poor Ringabolt... Who could have done this?]"

Return to Commander Zeig, and he will say this to you as he elevates you to Enigma Agent level 8:

  • "Wow, I didn't think you'd do it."
  • "You're shaping up to be one of our greatest agents, my friend."
  • "Hold on, getting another call right now."
  • "[Yes? Uh-huh. Are you sure?]"
  • "[Alright. Jeez ok I got it.]"
  • "I hate to do this to you bud, but you've got one more big job to do..."

Talk to him again, and he will now say this to you:

  • "Gray Enigma isn't for everyone. We do all the dirty work."
  • "Our clients pay us large sums of credits to do things that no one else will."
  • "The Galaxy has been shaped and molded into what it is today by the hands of Gray Enigma's ruthless operatives."
  • "And YOU are our most ruthless operative..."
  • "...Which is why we need you to blow up all of Mech City."

You are then presented with a Storyline Choice:

Zeig offers you the Enigma Bomb, which is to be placed within Mech City. Despite it being filled with innocents civilians and merchants, Mech City's Destruction is your final mission.

  1. Give me the Bomb, My loyalty lies with Gray Enigma.
  2. I won't do it. I cannot kill thousands more innocent lives.
  3. Gray Enigma is an immoral entity that must be destroyed!

Choice 1:

The conversation ends, and you are elevated to level 9 Enigma Agent

Talking to Commander Zeig will cause him to say this to you:

  • "I knew your loyalty was with us."
  • "Godspeed, Enigma Agent"

Go to Mech City to plant the bomb. However, when you arrive, Commander Zeig says this

  • "Uh oh. Mech City deployed a defense Mech Dragon! It already jammed our bomb."

Completing the story this way grants the Enigma Badge.

Choice 2:

The conversation ends, and you are elevated to level 9 Enigma Agent.

Talking to Commander Zeig will cause him to say this to you:

  • "Typical. An Agent full of promise throws his talents away..."
  • "Looks like I'll have to do the job myself. Mech City will be destroyed."

Go to Mech City to stop Commander Zeig's bombing attempt. However, when you arrive, you find nobody there, and you are elevated to level 10 Enigma Agent, acquiring the Darkweapon Badge.

If you talk to Commander Zeig after visiting Mech city, he will say this to you, unlocking Pegelda, Queen of the 4th Age in The Forbidden Arena if she is not already unlocked:

  • "You missed out on becoming something great."
  • "Get out of my face!"

Choice 3:

The conversation ends, and you are elevated to level 9 Enigma Agent.

Talking to Commander Zeig will cause him to say:

  • "You've made a grave mistake..."
  • "Don't wander into Mech City, now. Enigma doesn't take kindly to defectors."

(needs visiting Mech City dialogue/interaction to be added, if any)

Completing the story this way grants the Zeig Badge.
